Utilities

The City of Kaufman is the provider of water throughout the majority of the city limits of Kaufman.  The City of Kaufman is a customer city of the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), one of the largest and most reliable water suppliers in the State of Texas.  Negotiated contract rates for major industrial users are potentially available.  Information regarding the City of Kaufman’s utility billing department can be found here.

  • 1.5 million gallons per day of capacity (additional capacity available, if needed)
  • 2 elevated tanks (250,000 gallons each)
  • Approximately 53 miles of water distribution lines citywide

Areas on the outskirts of the City of Kaufman and the extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ).  The following special utility districts and water supply corporations are part of the Kaufman area.  A map of each provider’s boundaries is available here to view the geographical area in which each provider operates. 

  • Becker-Jiba SUD – provides water to the southeast portion of Kaufman and the ETJ.
  • College Mound SUD – provides water to the far eastern portion of Kaufman and the ETJ.
  • North Kaufman WSC – provides water to the far northern portion of Kaufman and the ETJ.
  • Rose Hill SUD – provides water in the northwestern ETJ of Kaufman and the city of Post Oak Bend.
  • Gastonia Scurry SUD – provides water to far western portions of the Kaufman ETJ.
  • Oak Grove WSC – provides water to the town of Oak Grove, just south of Kaufman.

The City of Kaufman is the wastewater provider throughout the city limits of Kaufman and operates its own municipal wastewater treatment plant.  Negotiated contract rates for major industrial users are potentially available.  Information regarding the City of Kaufman’s utility billing department can be found here.

  • 1.2 million gallons per day of capacity (multi-phased expansion plan underway)

The City of Kaufman contracts Republic Services as the solid waste provider in the city limits. Republic Services is a major national solid waste provider for both commercial and residential accounts. Information regarding solid waste service in the City of Kaufman can be found here.

The City of Kaufman is a “dual-certified” city with transmission service from both Oncor Electric Delivery and Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative (TVEC).  Depending on the area of Kaufman, either Oncor, TVEC or both are available for service.

  • Oncor provides access to one of the largest electric distribution systems in the State of Texas.  They are strictly the supplier of power as part of the deregulated electricity market.  They have an economic development department that works with businesses considering locating or expanding in their service territory.  Businesses and residents are able to select a retail electric provider (REP) with competitive rates.  Large businesses typically engage an electric brokerage company to shop contracted retail electric rates for their use.  Small businesses and residents are able to access competitive retail electric rates through the Texas Public Utility Commission’s Power to Choose website.  Oncor operates two substations in the immediate area with the availability to provide redundant heavy power subject to engineering review.

  • Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative (TVEC) is headquartered in Kaufman and serves portions of 6 counties throughout the area. Rates are regulated by TVEC and is member-owned allowing customers to be involved in the co-op. TVEC has an economic development department that works with businesses considering locating or expanding in their service territory. They operate two substations in the immediate area. TVEC is part of the Rayburn Electric Cooperative generation and transmission network. Rayburn is one of the largest cooperative conglomerates in the State of Texas serving portions of North and East Texas.

Atmos Energy is the natural gas provider throughout the City of Kaufman. They are one of the largest natural gas distributors in the country. More information on current rates can be found here.

  • Zayo – long-haul fiber optics provider with global connectivity supporting large and mission-critical operations.
  • Optimum – provides fiber optics of up to 1 GB, cable, and telecom services throughout the city limits.
  • Brightspeed – provides fiber optics of up to 2 GB and telecom services throughout the city limits.
  • Point Broadband – provides fixed wireless plans throughout portions of the city limits.
  • EarthLink Business – provides broadband and telecom plans throughout the city limits.
  • ANTS Technology – provides fiber optics up to 5 GB and fixed wireless services throughout portions of the city limits.
  • Nextlink – provides fixed wireless and telecom plans throughout portions of the city limits.
